DEPartment of talent!
Published: 19th November 2008 LIKE the Himalayas, the DEP Pipes British Two-stroke Championship has been consistently moving forwards over the last few years. Everything was put on the line when the series was first started in 2005, but its exponential growth has proven that there’s a cadre of hardcore two-stroke racers out there still to be catered for. From a single class in 2005, by the start of 2008 the organisers were looking at dedicated two-stroke events that rival anything else in the UK with five classes and some real talent throughout the field. There’s no doubting the vision and commitment within the MCF, and 2009 is set to be one hell of an action-packed season! |

A perfect weekend
Published: 13th November 2008 IT was simply a perfect weekend for James Stewart and Max Anstie. ‘Bubba’ joined David Vuillemin in the record books as the only other King of Bercy to race unbeaten through the weekend, ‘Mad Max’ even got his teeth in the adults after sweeping his third consecutive title as Prince, and both maximum men loved every minute! “That’s a real honour to join David in the records,” gleamed ‘Bubba’ after going 18/18, “And I have never enjoyed a race so much, the whole thing, the introduction, the show, I gotta come back next year and try to do it again.” And Bercy favourite Max Anstie, who will turn 16 before the next Bercy classic, had a word for his admirers and the opposition from the podium: “That’s three in a row, I just can’t wait for next year.” |

A Wild’ day for Thorpe as he turns on the Gas
Published: 13th November 2008 DAN Thorpe headed a Gas Gas landslide at Wildboarclough on Saturday where he won the 61st Northern Experts trial from fellow GG riders Ross Danby and Shaun Morris. For Danby it was a real hot ride, the Bewdley teenager was right in the zone on the fantastic, two-lap, 20-section course, as was Shaun Morris. For Shaun it was something akin to the form of pre-eye injury days, the normally reserved Preston rider being almost extrovert at the end of what was a cracking trial. Neither Shaun nor 2008 Northern Expert Michael Brown had a certain score in their heads at the finish. “I have no idea what we got for Eardley’s Burden, could have three or five,” commented The Atom. |

Bell’s ring for Lewis at tough Nantmawr
Published: 13th November 2008 A DIGNIFIED two-minutes of absolute silence at 11am in Nantmawr Quarry, on Sunday, gave time for reflection, a quiet before the storm at the final round of the Motul GBHS Series. WOR Events six-year relationship with Motul has gone from strength-to-strength and this year the series has been very well attended. Next season is planned to be even better. Set in and around the intimidating Nantmawr Quarry, the home of the legendary Tough One, the final round proved to be one of the toughest. In addition to the quarry’s testing terrain there was the added hurdle of flat-out tracks and field sections, which surround the upper parts of the quarry area. |

Jon’s Golden Bliss
Published: 13th November 2008 FIFTY-five riders turned up for Golden Valley Classic club’s trial at Catswood Farm, Bisley, near Stroud, on Saturday afternoon. The club made the decision to run the event on Saturday to avoid the Remembrance Day silences. Due to the concerns regarding fading light, it was decided to run only three laps of ten sections. Rain the previous night left some sections slick, although nowhere near as bad as the club’s previous trial at this venue. The killer section proved to be section nine. |

Faith, Hope and clarity
Published: 06th November 2008 HOPE was alive and kicking on Sunday morning in more ways than one. The north Derbyshire village, west of Sheffield, again hosted the Sheffield and Hallamshire club’s National Merle Morewood Peak Trial, complete with all the characters in the sidecar brigade and a healthy 45 Normandale Classic Championship contenders aiming for a final reshuffle in the five classes. A total of 31 Clubmen, including ladies, and 10 Hard course runners, plus 20 ‘Barrow Boys’ assembled under the giant chimney of the Blue Circle Cement Works – plus Superman and Batman and Robin, complete with cloaks. That more or less signalled the tone of the British Sidecar Championship finale. It was a day out for the sidecar lads. Although just what the residents of Hope thought when the Caped Crusader sped through the village on a sidecar outfit we wouldn’t like to say. As for the Normandale Classic contenders, it was business as usual as Dave Thorpe, Phil Wiffen (absent), Nic Draper, Simon Levett and Stephen Farrell all nailed their respective classes. Jon Bliss and Wiffen did not ride the Peak as their respective titles were in the bag. |
