THE ACU has announced details, dates and venues of its Quad Motocross Championships for the 2009 season. First up is the ACU British MMX Quad Motocross Championship which will run over nine rounds with two championship races per round.

KTM team-manager, Richard Cole, has signed British number three, Paul Holmes, to campaign the Austrian company’s 505MX model quad in both the British and European championships. Joining Holmes in the new factory team is Cole protégé, James Hellewell.

RICHARD Cole has signed up with KTM to run the Austrian company’s UK Quad team with full factory support. Final sponsorship details are still being sorted for the team which will compete in the British and European championships, with Cole working directly with the factory development team.

MARTIN Benbow, riding a 450 ATV World Yamaha, won the sixth and final round of the QRA’s British Quad Endurance Championship at a wet and windy Llangrove, deep in the heart of Wales. But while Benbow won the round in the pre-class, it was the on-form Paul Winrow, on his 450 Winrow Honda, who took the championship by 11 points from last year’s winner, Steve Atkins, riding a Suzuki. Heavy overnight rain finally stopped as racing was about to start and the rest of the day was wet but rain free all be it under a grey overcast sky.

ENTRIES are still available for the Adult Quad classes and the new Youth 200/250cc class at the QRA Margate Big Sky Beach races taking place on November 22/23. There will be three races for each class, each day after qualifying on the Saturday morning. The QRA is also planning a fun event on the Saturday evening on the beach under flood lights, followed by a social gathering in a local hotel with DJ Stumpy at the helm.

New Yam 450R gets alloy frame and EFI

YAMAHA held the European press launch for the new 2009 YFZ450R in France earlier this week. The outline details smuggled out to us show that it features an aluminium frame with a stretched width measurement of some three inches over the old YFZ450. The motor also features digital fuel injection.
